Complete Framework for Geospatial Data Workshop | First Day

The workshop combines the project team with the contributing parties that produce and consume geospatial data. The workshop started off with a speech from the president of the project steering committee Dr. Abdelraof Al Bibas, followed by an brief description of the project by LSDI project manager Basset Bendalla and an introduction to the workshop content by Mustafa Goha. The timeframe for the workshop included:

– An introduction to the project aims and goals.

– The different phases of a successful data entry.

– A presentation for the detailed study conducted to determine a proper spatial data categorization and visualization scheme

– Geospatial database preparation, development

– The designed electronic project portal in in action.

The second and final day for the workshop kicked off with Dr. Jamal Gledan giving an interactive session regarding the legal and legislative track, in which the relevant legislations and legal means were discussed. The session continued with a presentation discussing the best practices on how to conserve and renew spatial data by assuring that within a legal framework. This would lead to a proper and clearer definition on who owns the data, how to use it, whose responsibility is it, national security and licensing.

A further session was held to answer all questions and doubts about the project surveys. The latter is used to extract valuable information and indicators about the performance of geospatial data units working for each contributor.

Following that was the standardization and norms track presented by Dr. Abdulrahman Alfurjani. The presentation briefed the audience about the importance of open-sourced tools in organizing spatial data. It centrally included examples of the various standardizing literature and the common geospatial data norms used. In addition, a session was held to present the research done by project members.
